BOTOX (onabotulinumtoxinA) is an injectable medication. It is often used for cosmetic purposes, and when injected into the muscles of the brow, it works to smooth frown lines and crow’s feet to give you a calmer, more youthful appearance and boost your self-confidence. The results from this treatment can last up to four months.

BOTOX has also been approved by the FDA to treat a number of other conditions, including TMJ disorders. BOTOX works as a temporary solution for managing TMJ disorders because the medication temporarily “freezes” the muscles in the treated area, blocking pain signals from the nerves to the muscles to alleviate discomfort and other symptoms of your condition.

The amount of BOTOX used in your treatment will depend on muscle mass and the severity of the condition being treated. When used for cosmetic purposes, the medication is injected into your brow or other areas to smooth wrinkles and lines. When used to treat TMJ or other conditions, it is injected into the areas around the jaw, neck or ears.

BOTOX involves no incisions, stitches or surgery, allowing you to resume daily activities as soon as you leave our office. Your treatment will be comfortable and fast, and our dentist may use ice or a topical numbing cream to ensure that you do not experience any discomfort. You should notice improvements as a result of your treatment within 24-48 hours of your injection.
